Content Overview:
Regarded as a life-changing read by many of those that have read it, The Secret is a self-help book that looks to educate and encourage the reader about a universal principle for success that can be achieved through positive affirmations and visualisations. The book focuses on demystifying this secret which can transform how people look at things and lead them on to the road of success and true happiness.
The book outlines the ‘law of attraction’ and shows how positive thinking can open a person up to greater happiness, health and wealth. The book focuses on the theory that ‘like attracts like’ and what you believe you can achieve. Byrne demonstrates the view that as people focus their thoughts on the positive things they desire, they send a corresponding frequency to the universe that in turn attracts events and circumstances of the same frequency.
Whilst there is no proven scientific basis for the views expressed, Byrne demonstrates the principle with a series of case studies and success stories. The book highlights visualisation and gratitude as the two powerful processes that help people receive their dreams and desires. Byrne outlines a three-step process: ask, believe, and receive. This is based on a quotation from the Bible‘s Matthew 21:22: “And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive.”
Although hailed by many as the secret to good life and better living, the book has also attracted some serious criticism, with many claiming it to be ‘highly controversial. Despite this, over a decade since its first publication, it is still regarded as a ground breaking work in the field of inspirational writings.
