Why Employee Engagement should be your top priority
According to research undertaken by The Currence Group in Florida, employee engagement is the number one priority for HR Departments of One for the second year running.
For some companies, employee engagement is perceived as ‘fluffy stuff’, navel gazing and is one of the first departments whose budget is cut in a crisis. However, it is an essential function that adds value to your business.
It helps you to:
– Communicate the values and culture of your business
– Provide a channel for feedback and ideas
– Encourage cross-departmental communication and collaboration
– Maintain transparency
– Provide a mechanic to praise good performance and success and;
– Creates a customer-centric team.
As our clients would testify, if you wish to deliver exceptional products and customer experiences that affect your bottom line – you have to start by engaging your people!

However, don’t take my word for it. Whilst researching the validity of the importance of employee engagement, I identified a few key facts on the subject:
– 48% of UK workers are engaged at work (Qualtrics)
– 89% of employers think employees leave for money but only 12% do (Gallup)
– 17% of UK employees are looking to leave their jobs in the next two years (Qualtrics)
– Highly engaged employees are 87% less likely to leave their companies than their less engaged counterparts (Corporate Leadership Council)
– 75% of employees who choose to leave their jobs, quit their bosses, not their jobs (Roger Herman)
– Companies with engaged employees pull in 2.5x more revenues compared to competitors with low engagement levels (Hay Group)
Just think about what you could achieve in your business if you were to positively impact those metrics? But beware, internal communications and employee engagement are not a tick box exercise, but an ongoing strategy.
What are you doing to improve your people engagement?
